Common Mistakes Made in Civil Cases If you are answering the complaint yourself (with the help of an attorney), this page could be very important. Lawyers don't always prepare the answer correctly. Be sure to double check before you send the papers in. Make sure you have enough copies and that the paper is the correct type and size. Make sure the answer is stapled and bound correctly. It appears that the judge is a stickler for procedure.
