The Group Guidelines

The Group Guidelines

We have very few rules, but every organization must have some. The most important is, "Thou shalt not cut down thy neighbor". Nothing is served by calling names etc. It wastes everyone's time and makes for less members. That is not part of the picture. That does not mean that you cannot disagree. Disagreements are healthy, as long as each acts like an adult and respects the others.

Also remember, this is not a 9 to 5 job. No one is required to be here everyday. But, please remember, the more time you devote to this cause the more we can get done.

The next, is always remember, we deal ONLY with facts. We will not spread rumors. If something is said jokingly in the group, it stays in the group. Remember the child's game "Telephone"? We want our facts to be the same when they get to the other end of, in this case, the world. If you are not sure of something, ask! If you don't know who to ask, ask the group. Someone will come up with an answer or will try to find out.

Third, be very careful when dealing with someone outside the group. We are sure that Mr. Kern has found us so we must be doubly careful that everything that is stated as fact is indeed, fact.

After all, we are trying to help Mr. Kern with his quest to rid the internet of his MIDI files. However, he may not understand that we are only trying to help.

As is the case with any protest, anyone could sue us. What for I don't know! We are protected by the 1st Amendment and the copyright law, as far as the site goes. But some people do not play by the rules.

The next rule is also very important. When getting ready to send a letter in the name of the MRA, to any organization, that letter must go through the Director or Assistant Director. She/he will look for typos, grammar and overall content.

In some cases, the letter you present may come out looking very different from what you submitted. At that point, you can choose to send the letter, or not. Remember, those of us who are officers of the group, generally have over a year of experience. We are thoroughly saturated with this problem.

Not only the mechanics of the letter must be excellent, but the tone of the letter must also show that it has come from a professional organization.

The letter will be sent back to you for your approval. Of course, you may make changes and resubmit, but the final approval rests with the Director or Assistant Director.

If you decide that you want to send your original letter, you may do so, but you may NOT send it in the name of the MRA

Remember, what you say outside the group, reflects on the group and the goal. This is too important an issue to let it go down the drain because someone spoke without thinking.

When it comes to letters within the the group. First, let's try to remember to change the subject line to reflect what we are writing about. Second, if you are responding to something, Please copy what you are responding to.

There is an officers page , so if you have any questions that you do not want to bother the whole group with, click on the appropriate officers name and you will be given a mail link to that person. This also works, if you would like to volunteer for a job.

If anyone has anything to add to this page, or does not understand, please contact the Director or Assistant Director and we will talk about it.

Now, let's get to work.
